Sandy has been certified by the Board for Certification of Genealogists since 1993. She is Past President of the National Capital Area Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) 2005-2008, past member of the Board of Directors of APG 2005-2008 and is a past winner of the National Genealogical Society Family History Writing Contest and was named the 2009 winner of the prestigious Grahame T. Smallwood Jr. Award of Merit by the Association of Professional Genealogists
